Our Story

Why I Built WeApplyKazi

By Moureen Wawira Njiru, Founder

I know what it feels like to sit with your phone, refreshing your inbox, waiting for a reply that never comes.

I know the quiet shame of watching your savings shrink while you apply and apply and hear nothing back. The self-doubt that creeps in at 2am. The feeling that everyone else has a secret you weren't given.

Because I lived it.

There was a season in my life when I was jobless, lost, and had no one to show me the way. No mentor. No roadmap. Just a CV that wasn't working and a system I didn't fully understand. I wasn't lacking talent — I was lacking guidance.

So I figured it out the hard way. I studied what recruiters actually look for. I learned how to position myself, how to apply smarter, how to make my profile impossible to ignore. And slowly, it worked. I started landing interviews. Then offers. Then roles at companies I once thought were out of my reach.

The moment everything changed wasn't when I got the job — it was when I realized: no one should have to go through this alone.

That's why I built WeApplyKazi.

But there was a second story running alongside mine.

After spending over 5 years working in HR, I watched small business founders burn out trying to do everything themselves — including HR. Writing contracts at midnight. Guessing their way through payroll. One misstep away from an employment tribunal they couldn't afford. Running a business is already hard enough. Running it while being your own HR department is unsustainable.

I knew exactly what they needed — because I had spent years doing this work for larger organizations. And I knew it was possible to give SME founders the same protection and structure, for a fraction of the cost, while keeping them fully compliant with Kenyan law.

So WeApplyKazi became both things at once: a hand extended to the job seeker who feels invisible, and a foundation built under the founder who's trying to grow without breaking.

Two paths. One mission. Because whether you're looking for your next opportunity or building the company that creates one — you deserve support that actually works.

Thank you for being here. Truly.

We are so happy to serve you. 🤍
